Taghazout is know as the surf town of Morocco with long, wide beaches and a quite and chilled atmosphere. You go here to surf, stand up paddle, do yoga, have fresh fish for dinner, relax and clear your mind. So of course I wanted to go. The town is located just 20 km north of Agadir and is accessable by taxi from the bus station or the airport in approx. 35 mins. It is possible to take a bus to Taghazout as well, but it does not run from the bus station from where you will arrive if come from eg. Marrakech. If you also read my “A weekend in: Marrakech” post, you now know you need a plan once you arrive at the bus station, because taxi drivers will horde the bus and try to make you drive with them, grabbing your luggage and distracting you from other travellers. Note that cab fare should be no more than 150-200 Dirham.
Places to stay in Taghazout
This place has it all. Great location by the beach, loads of activities, spa and really nice rooms and apartments. Chances are you will not get bored here. Among the facilities and activities you can take long walks on the beach, get your muscles pumping in the indoor OR outdoor fitness area, play some beach volley or do some yoga overlooking the sea. They have yoga classes 3 times a day, so wether you are an early bird or a night owl, you can do yoga at a time that suits you. Besides all of this they of course have the main attraction of the area, a surf house from where you can have lessons or just rent boards yourself. Not into surfing or need a break from it? No worries. You can do stand up paddle or kayaks instead.
After a lon day of activities get a massage on the beach or go to the spa tdepartment and get a hammam. Try the Moroccan Hammam it is the best massage experience I have ever had. Enjoy the sunset from the lounge before heading to dinner. Every night they have outdoor cinema behind the surf house and a bondfire where you can have your mint tea.
Paradise Plage // Km 26 route d’Essaouira Imi ouaddar Agadir
Taghazout is also home of a selection of different surfhouses or camps, where you can rent apartments, double rooms or stay in dorms. Have a look at some of them if that sounds more like you: Surf Maroc, Surf Berber, Lapoint Surf Camp
What to do in Taghazout
Besides doing the obvious (surfing) you can of course do loads of different activities. Into yoga? No problem, you can’t really avoid places that offer yoga classes, as they are everywhere in town. Not a yogi? That’s no problem either, you can do hikes or bike rides to Paradise Valley or take day trips to Agadir just south of Taghazout or to Essaouira 150 km north. You can also just relax on the beach with a good book next to the camels.
