First of all you should rent a campervan or buy one if you plan on staying i OZ for a long time. It is a great way to see the country and to get off the beaten track.
We booked everything at once both our campervan from Travellers Autobahn and all of our trips and got at really good price. Be aware that some of the trips can be booked one of two weeks ahead so if you are on a tight schedule make sure to book in time. Some trips run every day, some just a couple of times a week. If you are on the east coast during high season be in ekstra good time.
Diving The Great Barrier Reef
Before going anywhere please do not let yourself miss the opputunity to dive or snorkle the Great Barrier Reef. I mean, there is a reason why it is in almost every single book in the world of the best places to see. You can do both day trips or a diving safari for multiple days. We booked our day trip through Passion of Paradise.
Oh Byron.. You have the best vibe! Please make Byron Bay a part of you travel plans the place is absolutely amazing. Take surfing lessons here on one of the many beaches and enjoy this relaxed surf vibe town. Go to Twisted Sisters for lunch or an afternoon piece of cheesecake and grab your dinner on the go and head to the lighthouse to watch the sunset.
Byron Bay is also a great place for young travellers with good opportunities for concerts and going out. I will always remember that one saturday night where my friend and I went to concert with an Australian band called Louis London and after the concert we were so stoked about the band that we bought their album and this pretty much became the theme song of your adventure in Australia. You can listen to the album here.
Drive north from Cairns to Daintree Rainforest. Go on the look out for cassowaries and make sure you camp in the middle of the forrest by the beach. Remember to buy a permit as it is a national park. It is a great experience camping in total silence just you, your car and nature. But it is also a little scary when it gets dark so bring a flashligt or headlamp.
Cute, cute and more cute. This little town is located just about 2 hours north of Brisbane and this place just got me by the heart. I believe a lot of Australians comes here to holiday as well and I can see why. This town has a little bit of everything. A big lovely beach, small shops and a national park with multiple hiking routes with a chance of spotting Koalas at hand. It really doesn’t get better than that.
Lake McKenzie with the brightest silica sand and water so pure that many species cannot have their habitat in the water. Jump in the fresh water and feel how this rainwater lake makes your skin very soft.
Take a float down the fresh cold water of Eli Creek and enjoy the perfect view of the creek pouring freshwater straight into the ocean.
There are several way to go and visit Fraser Island both one day trips and 3 days / 2 nights. I recommend staying more than one day so you can really get to experience this wonderful island. If you want to visit the island on your own be aware that you need to drive a certain vehicle and carry equipment for flat tires or if you get bogged in the sand.
Sailing The Whitsundays
Don’t worry it doesn’t need to be one of them party-cruises where you will have to get drunk all the time. There are plenty of other cruises. Book a mininum of 3 days / 2 nights on a catamaran. It is absolutely amazing! Snorkle with turtles among loads and loads of other beautiful fish and visit Whitehaven Beach, the beach with the brightest sand in the world. Most operators go from Airlie Beach.
What I really loved about Sydney is that it is just the perfect combination of all the things I really like. It is a big city with everything that comes along with it but besides that they have beaches. Not just one, many. And most of them is just a train- or a boat ride away.
Maybe you have heard of it, maybe you haven’t but you should know about “Schoolies” if you are traveling the east coast. Schoolies is a week-long holiday for high school grads where they are celebrating the end of finals. It is happening around late November or early December typically in Surfers Paradise and Byron Bay. I recommend that you consider going somewhere else on this specific period because believe me, it is mostly just enjoyable for the high school students.
