Finally it was time for me to join My Era, a newly started travel agency on their very first retreat to Mallorca. A whole week in the company of amazing ladies, doing yoga, having mouthwatering foods and staying in a completely incredible location! How lucky can one be?! It is so amazing here I might have to write home and tell that I am moving to this magical place!
The Sant Elm Castle
We are staying in the most beautiful surroundings of Sant Elm Castle, Mallorca located way up on the hill side with stunning views of the bay. Saint Elms Castle was built in 1342 and served as a hospital for many decades until 1597 where the hospital was closed due to frequent attacks. Today the building is in the inventory of the European Cultural Heritage and serves many visitors and tourist, making their stay both magical and historical.
We welcome the day every morning with meditation and yoga outside on the patio and watch the sun come up together. It is a great way to start the day and to wake your body gently and get it ready for the day. If you feel like hitting the snooze button and stay under the covers, that’s perfectly fine. But how often can you do your sun salutation with a view like this? I know mine in London looks nothing like it 🙂
First of all. Being cooked for – everyday! That just sounds perfect in my ears – and when every meal is healthy and plant based, it definitely doesn’t make it worse. I mean, I would eat this everyday and never get tired of it! Best thing? It goes on for a whole week! I am not vegan or vegetarian and I am amazed about all the things you can you with fruits and vegetables and a bit of creativity. To be honest the vegan food I have had here is just so pretty and inviting – much unlike a lot of food we have in our everyday lives. I am without a doubt going to adopt this way of eating back at home as much as I can. If you are curios about recipes (like all of us on the retreat were every time we got something served) they can be found right here.
The treatment is based on a holistic approach to the body and the way we percept it. Our body and mind are one and the idea is to connect the two during the treatment. It is a dynamic treatment with elements of acupressure, reflexology and respiratory therapy designed to release blockages in our minds and the body’s muscular tissue. We all got an hour long treatment by Julie Dalbøl from BodyLiving. The treatment is nothing like anything I have ever experienced before – and I have had quite a few treatments, being a physiotherapist. I do not think I have ever connected to my body the way I did during this session, it was very surprising to me, but in a very good and enlightening way. Julie is such a peaceful human being and I instantly felt comfortable in the room with her. If you would like to know more about ManuVision Body Treatments find Julie on her website (in Danish) or on Facebook and Instagram.
We have SUP lessons every day if we want (and if the weather allows). Line the instructor and owner of My Era, takes us paddling from different locations for us to get better and more confident on the board. This was from our first trip where we had a shaky start, but everyone made it to shore standing. Feeling like champions but with some really wobbly legs!
Day trips and activities
Besides doing yoga and stand up paddle boarding, other day trips and activities can easily be arranged. The options are endless. Fancy a day trip to Palma for some shopping, a gallery visit to the nearby CCAndraxt or maybe you’d rather go cliff diving or hiking. There are plenty of hiking routes in and around Sant Elm eg. Sa Dragonera National Park. If you need transport to a certain place, Line from My Era will happily take you there.
I did this whole retreat experience with My Era. Have a look at the webpage for dates on new upcoming retreats right here. Also remember to follow them on Instagram for more inspiration on health living, SUP, yoga and vegan food.
I enjoyed my time with all the ladies in the group and now feel completely revitalised after a week in their company. I will recommend everyone to try a retreat once in their life, to rewind and to boost motivation for a more active and mindfull way of living.
